Nichole - Dirty H if you're nasty

I like to read about boys who like other boys. I don't like angst. I don't like high fructose corn syrup.

Currently reading

Brainy and the Beast
J.M. Cartwright

Wow.

Wow, it's been a super long time since I logged in here. The books it says I'm currently reading are... wow. I'm not. I've still been doggedly loyal to goodreads and I never gave this site the time it deserved to really learn how to use it.

How are things around here? How is everyone?! I've missed you. :)

bummer

So i guess if you link your booklikes account to goodreads, it posts you booklikes activity on goodreads, but not vice versa?

Deep in the Count - Madison Parker Adorable. Wish it had been full length.
Step Brothers - Adrianna Vincent

This book gets two stars because against all odds, I actually read the whole thing. But don't let that fool you. It's really, really not good.

It reads like fan fiction, but not in a good way. It's really rambly and meandering and indulgent with a lot of superfluous scenes and awkward dialogue that serve no purpose to the story. There's a really gross m/f sex scene, as well as a really bizarre m/m sex scene between the MC and a different character. Once the MC's get together, it's just porn. Disappointing because after you've been reading for a bazillion years, you want romance, not porn.

It's just poorly written and if it were something you stumbled across on AO3, maybe it would be alright but no one should be paying money for this.

The Raw Shark Texts - Steven Hall I'm a big fat copy cat, just saying what every other review said, and yet it's accurate: this book is

House of Leaves +
Neverwhere +
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind +
Jaws

I would also throw in just a smidgen of Being John Malkovich.

And I have already cast the movie- James McAvoy and Lizzy Caplan. you're welcome, Hollywood.

I may have more to add later.
Someone Is Watching - Mark A. Roeder meh.
Spook Squad - Jordan Castillo Price I don't really have much to say about this book. it was a psycop book. I love Vic and Jacob. that is all.
Superhero - Eli Easton awwwwwwwwwwww!
Play Me, I'm Yours - Madison Parker more like 3.5 stars. Very cute but typical high school love story between jock and nerd, with some good secondary characters. main character was a little too much of a doormat for my taste, but still enjoyable.

YA: some on page sex, not fade to black, but no anal.
Black Hurricane (Boston Boys, #3) - Erica Pike I really enjoyed this installment of Erica pike's Boston boys series, though maybe not as much as the previous one. it had some flaws, but for me, reading m/m is about the relationship. if the connection between the characters is good, if I can feel their chemistry, if I can understand their motivation, then I can forgive most anything else and that was the case here. Erica is good at writing characters I can get behind and romances I can get invested in. Recommended!

And for an MLR release, it has a pretty great cover. Just don't look too close.
Last of the Summer Tomatoes - Sherrie Henry Stilted dialogue, one dimensional characters, very heavy handed with its preachy "this is where food comes from" theme, plus it was boring. the whole thing just felt inauthentic and awkward. cannot recommend this. couldn't even read it.
From the Ashes - Daisy Harris Just average. Daisy Harris has written some books that I loved but this isn't one of them. it's not horrible and that's why it gets 3 stars, but it's lacking. there's no real story here, which would be fine because I'm more of a character girl anyway, but there's no character development either.
We're just sort of tossed into this romance without any real introduction to the characters - which makes it hard to give a crap about them - and very little insight into their thoughts, which makes their motivations murky at best and the progression of the relationship confusing. Everything just seems to come out of nowhere with no real explanation. Herky jerky is how I would describe it.
Bottom line: only read this one if you've really got nothing else to read.
Sweet Young Thang - Anne Tenino What was bad:
although the romance started out both cute and hot, it quickly devolved to pure mush. I might have even been able to forgive that, except for the ad nauseam use of endearment starting with the word "sweet". Sweet baby, sweet boy, sweet thing, and the absolute worst: Sweetness. Ugh. A lot of people don't like the word baby- you will be begging for "baby" by the end of this.
I also thought the "mystery" portion of the book was utterly ridiculous, as well as completely unnecessary.

What was good:
Secondary characters and storylines were really good. Both the fire marshal and the frat boys were hilarious. Would have liked more Brad and Sebastian. I guess I'll need to re-read Frat Boy and Toppy.
Freshman: Uncut - Daisy Harris Love college boy stories and typically like daisy Harris, so this was a no brained.
this is the first in what I assume will be a four part series about Shane and Angel.
story is decent, but not at all meaty. good way to kill two hours, I guess. I didn't fall in love with the characters, but I'll keep reading.
